Ruby's pups are toddlers now

Well the pups are now 3 weeks old, play barking and growling and it sounds too adorable. They toddle walk, and have decided they want to sleep on mama's bed and not in the whelping box now (time to take it out of there). I'll be starting them on puppy mush gruel soon, I can feel bumps where the teeth will be emerging shortly. Precious, the lighter red male, is the bravest of the bunch. He is always out and about checking out everything where the others are more staying together in a huddle. Darling the little black and tan female is all girl, she wanted mama when I took her pictures, howled and carried on and had to be cuddled to feel reassured, poor baby! Dreamy (dark shaded red) is really looking good, I think this little boy will be getting very light red. Creams start out dark and lighten, and since his daddy is cream (black & cream) and mama is 1/2 cream, he could be doing just that. Tho I think he will still be red, even if very light red, because he's got such a nice red cast to his coat. Now Buddy has very light creamy points, but I'm still calling him black and tan because mama isn't full cream. It will be interesting to see how they all mature out on colors!
Such sweet babies they are :)

Tinkerbell's reaction to her vaccine

Tinkerbell is our little cream girl we kept back from Peaches X Lucky litter last December. Her last set of vaccinations were done yesterday (late I know, too much stuff going on!). Our vet (who is awesome!!) always gives a bit of benadryl in with every vaccination, he knows dachshunds are prone to reactions. I always give them more benadryl about 8 hours later per his recomendations. Well yesterday we were having so much fun outside I was about 45 minutes late giving her a dose, and then I noticed her face! Wow! PUFFY!
Well Tinker must have been feeling miserable, because she sure wanted cuddling. I don't blame her, poor baby. All is back to normal this morning thank goodness! Benadryl is our friend! I've added 2 photos, one from last nights reaction, and one from this morning all better. :)

Pedicure party day

It was such a nice sunny day out we spent most of the day outside. Well I noticed everyone's nails were turning into claws so grabbed the Dremel. A few are a bit nervous, but aren't too bad. Everyone looks fabulous now!

Rainy day for the doggies

Woke to rain today. Some of the dachies love a little rain, but some don't want to get off the porch. They might melt! I'm glad it's raining though, we planted some new grass seed in one area of the dogs yard, and have that area fenced off. I'll be glad when it fills in so we can open that area back up. They have more room to run zoom zoom and chase each other in play, and I love how that wears them out. Such sweet naps when we go back in the house.
I'm hoping none of them want to dig today. Always fun to fill the holes in and clean them up, but the ground will be soft and turn into a mud bath. Ick. One of us is out there with them during potty breaks to clean up all their little packages, but they can dig pretty fast when your back is turned.
I trimmed up the hair on most everyones feet yesterday so that helps keep the dirt tracked in to a minimum. Had to stop before everyone was done because the clippers were getting hot to hold, so they must have been hot if it touched them too. Safety first! Was hoping to finish the rest today, but I prefer to do it out on the porch where the hair floating around won't get into/onto everything. Nails will be next, once the long hair is trimmed away around the nails I use a dremmel to grind the nails down short. I love how dainty their feet look after I'm done, clean and neat and pretty.
I'll have to get some photos to add to this later on...... Maybe some great shots of them in the rain :)

Dachshunds are Delightful

I'm a dachs-a-holic. I admit it. The little furballs rule our daily life. If we want to go shopping we plan it around nap time, and if we're gone longer than 2 hours we're feeling guilty. My husband is a dachs-a-holic too. Neither one of us can go into the store without gravitating over to the pet supplies. Like today, we went to check out the new Meyers store. Oh they have such a nice BIG bag of the chicken jerky strips that they really enjoy. Into the cart that went. The pups need a couple teething nylabones too. That was it, we were being good. Then we stopped at a pet supply store (bad judgment on our part, I know) just to get one item. Some protection pants for one of our girls that is in heat. Oh my! They have improved their inventory since the last time we've been in there! Toys! Tons of them and LOTS of wonderful selections to look at. Well they needed some new toys, we'd recently thrown out some older ones that the dachies had loved on (mauled beyond recognition) to the end of it's use-ability. A couple new Good Cuz squeaky balls, they always smell so nice and the doggies love them so! A cute monkey road kill (a de-stuffed stuffed animal-no stuffing being pulled out and strewn about it nice), well we thought they'd have fun playing tug of war with the arms so added that to the basket too. A great ball full of holes, easy to grab and run with. Added that. Hubby started to get nervous at that point and pulled me over to the garment section to get the panties. Well they have diapers with tail holes now too! I didn't know that!!!!!!! COOL! A bag of those went in, along with the heavy cloth one in case the disposible ones don't work. And guess what! There's a spray that is supposed to work to mask the odor of girls in heat. The sales lady told me folks that use their dogs to hunt love the stuff, so a bottle of that went into the cart too. Around the isle to the next one we go, hubby heading for the register to cash out of there, and I stopped by the nylabones and grabbed a couple more. Hubby knew the way to get me moving....*Honey, the dogs are going to be needing to go out, we really need to get going* works every time. Get the total at the register and my eyes opened a little...$83.64 .........well they're worth it. And when we got home and went outside we had SOOOOOOOO much fun playing! Now to go try out those disposible diapers.....
